Case Study

Family Office and Formycon Secure Multiple Global Licensing Partners for Aflibercept Biosimilar

Client Challenge

A family office with several biosimilar investments and Formycon AG, a leading developer of high-quality biosimilars, approached completion of a Phase III study and were preparing regulatory submissions in Europe and the United States for their Aflibercept biosimilar. To maximize the program’s long-term value, Formycon and the family office aimed to outlicense commercialization rights globally to a network of best-in-class regional partners.

They reached out to Alira Health for a structured process to identify and qualify potential partners, coordinate outreach, and support negotiations through to the signing of multiple regional licensing agreements.

Our Approach

Alira Health’s Transaction Advisory team acted as an integrated extension of Formycon’s business development organization, combining transaction execution expertise with deep knowledge of the biosimilar market. Specifically, Alira Health:

  • Developed comprehensive marketing and transaction materials to effectively position the Aflibercept biosimilar to potential partners.
  • Identified, screened, and engaged a broad pool of qualified licensees across all key global markets.
  • Led initial outreach, discussions, and management of confidentiality agreements.
  • Structured and managed the full non-binding offer process, including coordination of submissions and comparison of commercial terms.
  • Benchmarked received offers and developed detailed commercial valuation models to support partner selection and negotiation strategy.
  • Supported due diligence processes, virtual data room management, and contract negotiations through signing.

Outcomes

Alira Health successfully facilitated the signing of multiple regional licensing agreements, covering all major international territories:

  • Valorum Biologics – exclusive rights in the United States and Canada
  • Teva and Horus Pharma – semi-exclusive rights across major European markets
  • NTC Pharma – exclusive rights in Italy
  • Lotus Pharma – exclusive rights in Southeast Asia
  • MS Pharma – exclusive rights in the Middle East and North Africa
  • Megalabs – exclusive rights in Latin America
  • ACTOR – exclusive rights in Australia

Through this process, Formycon and its investors established a strong commercial foundation for the future global launch of the Aflibercept biosimilar, ensuring each region was represented by a capable, strategically aligned partner.
